Good evening,

It is a beautiful but bitter cold evening tonight. The snowy sidewalks and roads with icicles growing from gutters, remind me of a similar Christmas break as a kid growing up in Puyallup.

I believe the year was around 1970 or 1971. We had just moved to my grandmother's house permanently at 1335 W. Pioneer.

Over the entire two week break, one day it would snow and the next day the sun would blind us from above, eventually pinching a few trickles that soon formed colossal stalactites from most every gutter in front of Aylen and up and down West Pioneer.

Some grew to be 4 feet long.

My friends and I slipped and skated our way through the main streets of 14th and Pioneer. I remember the knitted scarf I had on, olive green and gold, my regular school coat and a pair of jeans. There was nothing out of the ordinary in our wear. No snow boots, snow pants or waterproof gloves.

Based on our clothing we owned we went out when it was sunny, stayed in when it was stormy and cold.

Life is like that. You go out when it's sunny and hunker down when it's stormy and cold. Back then, it didn't matter if it was a winter skiff, a squall, or a pandemic. You just rolled with you had and most importantly learned to cope with change.

Change is a big deal. All through our life we try to mitigate it. We do all kinds of things... dye our hair, mow our lawn (many times and repeatedly), shovel snow, clip the trees, the list goes on and on.

Over the past several years, if anything we have become reacquainted with embracing the fact that change can and will happen no matter what we do to stop it from happening.

Yes, my parents still live in that little house at 1335 W. Pioneer but the kids are gone and no longer play in the streets. Some things have changed but when I go to the little house it still looks the same.

Mostly I am thankful for weathering through life with all of you!

Whatever you do, do it with positivity, style and grace even if you don't have good boots or a down coat.

Wishing your family and friends health and happiness.

Happy New Year 2022

Greetings!

I hope this message finds you and your family safe and well.

As the holidays quickly approach, we want to first thank everyone who has served in the military or who has family currently serving in the military. Happy Veteran's Day to you!

We have a few announcements:

First, in the past we have looked forward to enjoying briefly seeing each other at the PHS Alumni Assembly. We have recently learned as of 11/12/21 there is not going to be one for 2021.

Second, communication is very important to us. We have learned this blog will no longer send out notifications to your email inbox as a service. While our committee has been researching solutions on how to keep you informed, right now the best solution is to continue its use with you simply checking it periodically. You can get to the blog by using this link, then save it as a bookmark on your computer.  https://puyalluphs1975.blogspot.com

Again, the blog will continue to remain the best way to get information, and dates on reunion happenings. You will need to periodically check it on your own.

In addition, we will also continue to use Facebook and Instagram

FB https://www.facebook.com/PuyallupHighSchool75

IG https://www.instagram.com/puyallup1975/

Finally, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving. We are grateful for you our classmates and friends.

Best wishes over the holidays.

Our Message and Thoughts

Dear Classmates,

This past year has been hard on us as we endured many hardships personally anywhere from loss and isolation, to our businesses suffering financially.

My own family suffered like yours. Two of my own close family members are both undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. I had a son loose his job. And still our family is divided by politics, allowing our differences to consume us, separate us and polarize us.

The stories are endless, not one person has come out like they were before but with hope we put one foot in front of the other and learned how to go about every day life once again.

We can do hard things with support from our family, friends and loved ones.

Over the past few years and recent weeks, we have lost several of our dear classmates.  Please know each and every one of their lives, and their loved ones who have suffered loss, has not gone unnoticed by your friends and fellow classmates of Puyallup High School 1975.

Remembering our lost classmates and their lives clearly demonstrates our connectedness as humans and will continue to make us stronger.

From this day forward may we all do what matters most to all of us, reach out to one another. Make what matters count by rebuilding those ties that may have been slightly frayed.

Make every day count from here on out.
